How did I get started on digital photography?

I was always interested in taking photos in college, but I could never get by the fact that I had to continuously replenish film. It seemed too expensive and inhibitive to be any fun. But once I heard about the advances in digital photography, I knew this would be one of the first "toys" I would buy with my paycheck. My first camera was a Nikon Coolpix 4500 (it swivels!) in 2002 and I just kept snapping photos since then. I've definitely had lulls in my interest in this hobby from time to time, but I have always come back for more.

What cameras are I currently shooting with?

My compact camera is a Leica D-LUX 4. I love this camera because of its wide angle lens, 16x9 photo capability, manual controls, and the fact it just looks so damn cool! Most of the photos I plan to display on this photoblog will be shot with my Leica. My hope is that I'll carry the Leica with me more often and therefore shoot more photos.

I also have a digital SLR. I currently use the Pentax K20D with the 31mm f/1.8 and 77mm f/1.8 prime lenses. I chose Pentax over Canon and Nikon because the Pentax dSLRs felt the most comfortable in my hands and the Pentax system seemed to have more desirable prime lenses than the other two. I'm proud of the fact that I managed to get one photo successfully submitted to the official Pentax Photo Gallery.
